Proverbs

Proverbs 1:1-7

Summary

Proverbs are the words of Solomon, son of David.  They teach wisdom and self-control.  They will teach you how to be honest, fair, and righteous.  Proverbs will educate the ignorant, the educated, the young, and the old.  You’re never too old or too knowledgeable to learn more.  Wisdom begins with respect and awe of the Lord.  Foolish people may not be interested in Proverbs because they are not interested in enlightenment.

Intention

Be open-minded and practice gratitude. Start your day not with noise, but with awe. Wisdom doesn’t shout; it listens.   Wisdom begins with reverence, not ego.

Proverbs 1:8-19

Summary

To the children, listen to your parents.  They have a lot to teach you.  It’s a good look to be raised right, and to have respect for your parents.  Try not to follow people who will do wrong in the world, such as engaging in violence or stealing from others.  Do not hang with the wrong crowd. They will only embark on a road to self-destruction.

Intention

Remember your upbringing and the wise advice you received from your parents or mentors.  Try to resist the allure of engaging in immorality.  Instead, walk away before you lose yourself.  Choose wisdom.

Proverbs 1:20-33

Summary

Wisdom is personified as a woman in this verse.  She raises her voice in the street to spread knowledge.  Foolish people ignore her or mock her.  Wisdom is asking to be heard, so that the people who listen will avoid disaster.  If people do not listen to wisdom, they get what they deserve.  Wisdom will no longer be of help.  However, people who do listen to wisdom will live in peace and safety.

Intention

Wisdom comes from reflection.  Try prayer, meditation or journaling.  Wisdom comes from experience.   You gain empathy through hardships…learn from them.  Wisdom comes from relationships.  Listen to the parents, mentors, or coaches that you respect.  Finally, discern between what is actually true over what seems trendy on social media.

Proverbs 2:1-5

Summary

King Solomon urges us to listen to wisdom.  To seek wisdom with all of our heart.  Search for it as you would a hidden treasure.  Then, you will understand what it means to respect and know the Lord.

Intention

Just as people hustle for career success or financial gain, this passage urges us to hustle for wisdom—with even greater urgency.  Instead of passively absorbing information, actively seek truth. That could mean:

  • Managing your social media feed to include voices of integrity and insight.  Block out the nonsense.
  • Asking deeper questions in conversations—not just “What happened?” but “What does this mean?”
  • Journaling or meditating daily to reflect on what you’re learning and how it shapes your choices.

Proverbs 2:6-8

Summary

God gives wisdom.  He gives knowledge and understanding to those who are honest. He protects those who are innocent, who are fair to others, and who are loyal to him.

Intention

Wisdom is the ability to use knowledge, experience, and good judgment to make sound decisions.  It seems according to this verse; God will give you wisdom if you’re simply a good person.  So, be honest, be righteous, treat people with respect, and believe in God.  Being light is seeing the light.

Proverbs 2:9-15

Summary

If you are truly loyal to God, you will understand what it means to be good and honest. You will have wisdom, and that knowledge will make you happy. Good sense will protect you and keep you from doing the wrong thing. People who are corrupt enjoy their wrongdoing.

Intention

It’s simple. Love God and be kind to others. Next, will come wisdom, then innocence, honesty, and integrity. Finally, something we are all looking for…inner peace.
